We finish our series of sessions with two visits from the ‘Arts and crafts’ group from Mosaic. In the first session we looked at the importance of water and desertification as a result of climate change. We did this by comparing the desert house with the outside environment and the tropical house in particular focusing on the difference in the number of crop and edible plants. We collected leaves etc. from the ground and everyone created a picture from natural materials demonstrating the variety of nature where there is water.
In the afternoon we looked at the life in our pond and did some pond dipping. We also did some leaf rubbings and everyone cut round these and created their own picture.
This week we will be looking at the sculpture exhibition as another function of a Botanic Garden. We will look at form, material and setting do sketching, take photographs and create our own sculptures from clay. In the afternoon we will have a session on willow weaving lead by Ground works Leicester.
Next week we will finish the project with a celebration get together.
